NAYSI BIOnote . . . in-service education for youth leaders Resume Timeline

Dr. Jack Hutslar is an internationally recognized youth sport specialist: trainer, speaker, writer, and consultant. He has worked with youngsters in Fitness, Recreation, Education, Sport and Health (FRESH) for nearly 40 years.

Hutslar is the author of BEYOND X’s and O’s, a complete youth sport "guide" for youth and school coaches, parents, teachers, directors and community leaders. BEYOND X’s and O’s is available in Spanish (MAS ALLA de las X’s y las O’s, 1993, 299 pp.). It can be purchased through the NAYSI Resource List and Educacion Deportiva Internacional in Mexico.

Hutslar edits and publishes Sport Scene, has written many articles, and has had columns appear in several publications. Hutslar researched and wrote Munchkin Tennis (1989), a book for the United States Professional Tennis Registry. It was the largest selling book for USPTR and was re-published for parents by Triumph Books in 1993. Munchkin Tennis illustrates how to conduct a fun-filled games approach to tennis with children ages nine and under.

Hutslar is a co-founder of American Youth Football (1996) and was script consultant and featured coach in The Official Pop Warner Football Video Handbook (1987) and a 1988 YABA pilot video for teachers. He researched and wrote the YABA Coaches’ Manual: Beginning Bowling (1987) for the Young American Bowling Alliance and designed the YABA training program provided for YABA coaches. Hutslar has done research for the Ice Skating Institute of America and educational groups like RISE America that conduct programs for disadvantaged and minority youngsters.

Hutslar is Vice President of Education for Youth Basketball of America. He provides input on YBOA education programs, coaches clinics, teacher workshops, and courses for coaches, teachers, players, parents, and directors. A YBOA book he wrote on conducting successful tournaments will go to press in the near future.

Hutslar has conducted teacher workshops and coaches clinics in the USA, Canada, England, Panama and Mexico. He has been interviewed for many publications throughout the USA and has been a "guest expert" on television. Hutslar has produced educational materials for youth membership organizations that serve well over one million youngsters annually.

Other activities include launching the NAYSI web site [www.NAYSI.com], the development of a national sports education program in Mexico (Educacion Deportiva Internacional), certification of coaches at all levels, providing technical assistance for new national youth sport programs, an 800 NAYSI Technical Support service, sport correspondence courses for coaches and parents, and grants.

Hutslar provides technical support, training, management, and marketing assistance for youth agencies and schools as well as businesses that sell or manufacture products, or conduct sports, recreation and fitness programs for tots, children and teens. Dr. Jack, as he is called, is a sports junkie whose passions are his family, children of all ages, ice cream and tennis.
