Ask
Jack:
Where can I find a diagram to lay out a 400 meter track. Snowshoe
on 2/2/2001
Jack sez: We answered a track
layout question once before. That information is:
The USTCA&TBA sells a
book called the Track Construction Manual which you can order on line at www.USTCTBA.com.
Visitors to www.NAYSI.com are reminded that searches
can be done, in this case on track, from the home page of www.NAYSI.com. Scroll through Ask
Jack and our FAQ to find answers to the
question you may be too darn shy to ask.
Youth
from Mexico want track meet in USA
I
received a telephone call from Roman Perez, my friend and associate in
Monterrey, NL, Mexico. He wishes to schedule a track meet in the USA for a
group school boys and girls, ages 10 to 16. North Carolina is his first
preference but he will consider other locations. They are prepared to
travel to the USA between the end of March and the end of April. If you
know of one or more track programs (school, recreation, other) that would
like to host these youngsters, most of whom are bilingual, please contact
Jack as soon as possible. Thanks . . . Jack@NAYSI.com.

Youth
Sport Leadership Forum
March 6th

Board at www.NAYSI.com
Leadership is a trait that some people possess naturally. Others find
themselves in positions of leadership neither innate abilities nor
experience to call on. In the latter case, those skills must be acquired
through on the job training. Can leadership be learned? Sure!
Leadership and issues like this are being addressed in the Piedmont Triad
through the Youth Sport Leadership Forum and Coaching Clinics. They were
started in 2000 by Jack Hutslar with full endorsement of the Piedmont
Triad Sports Club. PTSC is an outgrowth of the Piedmont Triad Partnership,
a non-profit organization serving the 12 county Piedmont Triad Region. Dudley
Travel Agency, Inc. is the first major
sponsor to be signed for 2001. Jack Hutslar founded the North American
Youth Sport Institute in 1979.
In the area of sports for kids, both at the community and school level,
program leaders can find themselves in situations that challenge their
knowledge and talent. That is, rowdy players, aggressive coaches and
unruly parents have more experience doing what they do than do many
program leaders. Unprepared leaders can get run over. Others can just
struggle to cope with or come up with strategies that neutralize those
"challenging" participants.
The purpose of the Youth Sport Leadership Forum, among other things, is to
provide leaders with management tools and options? How do others deal with
unruly parents? Do we know anything about changing the habits of
aggressive coaches? Questions like this are common. Sharing strategies and
information is the cornerstone of the Leadership Forum.
The next Youth Sport Leadership Forum will be held March 6th at 6:30
p.m. at the Kernersville Family YMCA. The program will begin
with a Reception featuring Gerald Austin, NFL Head Referee at Super
Bowl XXXV. It will be followed immediately by the Leadership Forum.
There is no charge for this program. A light snack will be provided.
Pre-registration is required.
The Coaching Clinics, by title, are pointed toward those who work with the
young boys and girls in community and school sport and recreation
programs. In many cases, Clinics such as this are used as recruiting tools
to sign up new parent coaches and league helpers.
These two programs are offered alternately every 3.5 months. Announcements
can be found on the Bulletin
Board at www.NAYSI.com. The
current schedule is:
